The year 2000 ushers in a new era for the Sahara Hotel and Casino with the completion of the 75,000-square-foot NASCAR Cafe, Speed-The Ride, Las Vegas' newest and fastest roller coaster and the new 875-seat Sahara Theater featuring world-class magician Steve Wyrick.
The new additions to the Sahara mark the competition of the latest renovation project spearheaded by owner William G. Bennett to restore the property's legendary splendor.  "The combination of the NASCAR Cafe, SPEED and Steve Wyrick offers our guests a completely unique entertainment and dining experience," says John McManus, vice president of the Sahara.  "And by providing these experiences at affordable prices, we will maintain our commitment to offering the best value on the Las Vegas Strip."
To coincide with the Las Vegas Winston Cup Race, the 400-seat NASCAR Cafe opened March 2, 2000 featuring exciting stock car racing entertainment and an all-American menu.
The NASCAR theme, which encases the entertainment complex, includes giant projection television screens equipped with surround sound featuring NASCAR racing, driver profiles and the latest NASCAR news and authentic NASCAR merchandise.
Nearly 20 authentic NASCAR stock cars are displayed throughout the venue, including the world's largest stock car, "Carzilla," a Pontiac Grand Prix that weighs in at more than three tons.  For those looking for a stock car driving experience, the Las Vegas Cyber Speedway, attached to the NASCAR Cafe, offers race car driving excitement with realistic stock car race movement, visual and sound simulation.
"NASCAR has expanded its brand of competitive stock car racing throughout the United States and the new NASCAR Cafe complex at the Sahara certainly reflects the tremendous interest in our sport," says Mark Dyer, president of the NASCAR Cafe Las Vegas.
"Las Vegas offers the biggest and the boldest entertainent in the world, and the Las Vegas NASCAR Cafe will be the largest, most comprehensive entertainment experience we've developed to date."
For more thrill seeker excitement, the NASCAR Cafe is the launch site for the fastest roller coaster in
Las Vegas, aptly named SPEED, designed by the renowned high-tech attraction company, Premier Rides.
The fast-paced roller coaster will slingshot riders from inside the Nascar Cafe along the Strip at speeds in excess of 70 m.p.h. SPEED features a breathtaking loop and zips through the 192-foot Sahara marquee before stopping 224 feet above the ground-and then repeats the exhilarating experience in reverse.
The Sahara is a Strip icon, opening in 1952.

There's a new face on the legendary Sahara Hotel and Casino, part of a $100 million renovation and expansion.  New attractions include the breath-taking ride "SPEED" and  Las Vegas' own NASCAR Cafe, which includes Carzilla, the World's Largest Stock Car, above the bar in the popular new race car-themed restaurant.
